Here at Ticket Rangers HQ we have been umming and aahing about when to start our Christmas festivities. Too early and you run the risk of it losing its magic, not early enough and you just don’t have time to fit in all that holly jolly fun!
So after much debate, Daddy Ticket Ranger took it upon himself to decide that yesterday was THE day, the official start of Christmas 2018 for the Ticket Rangers family, when he sneakily went and booked tickets for The Grinch!
Mean old Mr Grinch asked what Niall wanted for Christmas and then cheekily told him that he was going to come and steal his Christmas presents as he didn’t have a Batman toy in his cave yet.
To Niall, that was ‘the real Grinch’ that he had seen on the movie.
When we returned to Florida in April, Niall asked straight away to go and see The Grinch to tell him that he didn’t steal our Christmas. But this time, because it wasn’t Christmas season, we didn’t meet ‘Real Grinch’. Instead we met, as Niall called him, ‘Cartoon Grinch’.
He loved seeing him too, and we met him a few times over that holiday. Martha was a bit wary of him at first, after seeing him be a bit mean to Niall she hung back on most visits, but after a couple of encounters she managed to see past the mean green exterior and ended up being just as big a fan as Niall!
So since the trailer came out a couple of month ago, Niall has been so excited for Christmas to see ‘Cartoon Grinch at the movies!’
And I have been just waiting for an excuse to wear my Resting Grinch Face t-shirt again…
We decided to go to Vue for the film, as the prices are great and the seats are nice and big with tons of leg room, which for us grown up Ticket Rangers who are on the tall side, makes it a deal clincher!
So after the big build up and long time waiting, what was our verdict??
Well, we are happy to say it was a big hit with all of us. Myself and Daddy Ticket Ranger are rather old school and so although we went in open minded, we always knew it wasn’t going to meet the awesomeness as the Jim Carrey movie for us, but we both said afterwards that it was really enjoyable and had laugh out loud moments in it too.
For anyone who hasn’t seen the Jim Carrey adaptation, or read the Dr Suess book, and doesn’t know who this mean green fella is, let me explain.
The Grinch is a Christmas despising, solitary enjoying, meanie who lives high above the Christmas loving town of Whoville with his dog Max.
In order to stop the Whos from annoying him any further with their festive fun, he hatches a plan to become Santa Clause and steal Christmas…
The 2018 version of The Grinch is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, and so although he is not as ‘vocally animated’ as the Jim Carrey version, it works well and if anything, when The Grinch’s heart grows 2 sizes, it makes him even more lovable! The movie is colourful, bright, funny and very enjoyable.
The kids really enjoyed it – Niall snorted laughing numerous times and at once point he got the giggles so much he was curled up on his chair! He is still talking about the cream coming out of the reindeer’s nose this morning!
Martha enjoyed it too, it is hard to keep a 2 year old entertained for the full length of a movie, but The Grinch’s bright colours, Christmas overload and the very fact it just oozes fun managed very well.
If you are wanting to get yourself in the Christmas spirit, then we would definitely recommend going to see it, even if it is still only November haha!
And the lovliest thing happened on the car ride home after the film - Niall announced that Christmas isn’t all about presents, it is about being happy and having fun… I think Dr Suess would be proud :)
